Post Honey Maid S’mores Cereal

Sometimes the name brand isn’t as good as the generic, and that is definitely the case with the Honey Maid brand s’mores cereal. Buy the Malt-O-Meal one instead.

Who wouldn’t want to roll out of bed and indulge in a s’more for breakfast? For those of us grounded in reality, the next best route is to fire up the imagination and eat some s’mores-inspired cereal.

The experience

Post’s Honey Maid S’mores cereal puts off a major s’mores vibe:

  • Golden Grahams/Cinnamon Toast Crunch-style graham-flavored squares
  • Cocoa Puffs-like sphered of chocolate cereal
  • Mini cylindrical cereal marshmallows

Bippity, boppity, boop! The graham squares also have a little extra sugar sprinkled on them for good measure.

Strengths

After pouring this cereal into the bowl, I get the feels. The toasty shades of brown with bright white accents of marshmallows brings me straight to the campfire with marshmallows on sticks.

The cereal tastes good both dry and with milk. The sweetened milk with graham cracker flavoring and crumbs at the end was best part.

Weaknesses

After pouring milk onto the cereal, it doesn’t take long for the graham squares to become soggy. It’s a very Cinnamon Toast Crunch-like in that regard.

Also, the chocolate flavor in this cereal is absolutely weak. The chocolate puffs add more of a corny Kix effect than Cocoa Puffs. They should rename this cereal to s’mos or ’ores—a key part of the s’mores equation is missing.

Verdit: buy the generic

The Malt-O-Meal S’mores cereal fails hard on the chocolate flavor too, but the graham squares hold up much better in the milk. Even if that difference weren’t true, the cereals are pretty similar.

Why not spend less money to get s’more cereal? And hey, if you’re feeling bad for ole’ Post, remember that all of the money goes to Post’s bank account anyway. They own the Malt-O-Meal brand too.

Or you could consider making your own. So many choices!
